Shoden Data Systems Market leader with EMC Data Domain Solutions. A Solution 7 Times Faster than Competition

Johannesburg, South Africa, May 2011 - Shoden Data Systems is the leading EMC partner in Southern Africa when dealing with enterprise backup, recovery and archive solutions based on the Data Domain product range. In South Africa, Data Domain has been represented by Shoden Data Systems for over five years, boasting an installed base across the financial services, telecommunications, manufacturing and retail industries.

EMC® Corporation, the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, recently announced the most significant array of disk-based backup advancements in the history of the company

“Shoden, currently the market leader for Data Domain solutions in South Africa, is pleased to be able to offer the new EMC Data Domain products, system enhancements, integration initiatives and performance gains to our clients” said Adrian Wood, Business Development Manager of Shoden.

The new solutions substantially alter the existing landscape for backup and recovery. The new EMC Data Domain® Global De-duplication Array (GDA) incorporates two of the new EMC Data Domain DD890 controllers, making the GDA the world’s fastest de-duplication storage system.

Within a fixed backup window, throughput performance ultimately dictates a backup de-duplication storage system’s usable capacity. Regardless of how much raw storage a disk-based backup system may provide, its actual usable capacity correlates to the amount of data the system can ingest within the available backup window. With its latest announcement, EMC has proven its ability to extend the performance characteristics of its backup systems and deliver a balance of performance and capacity that is better suited to solve customer problems than other products in the market today.

EMC’s new products and expansion of support for additional application environments create new opportunities for users to holistically address the full range of their data protection initiatives. Enterprise environments typically have a variety of system and workload types to protect, which often lead to multiple backup approaches. EMC’s unmatched scope of integrated disk-based backup systems eliminates silos of redundant processes as well as associated cost and management complexities.

“If there was ever a question that inline data de-duplication storage systems could scale to meet the needs of the largest enterprises, the new Data Domain Global De-duplication Array should conclusively put those doubts to rest. In fact, the entire high-end of the EMC Data Domain line just massively scaled in both performance and capacity,” said David Chapa, Senior Analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group

“EMC has worked with many of the Shoden Data Systems professionals for a number of years. During this time, we have developed a strong relationship and as such are pleased to be working with Shoden on the new Data Domain offerings,” said Vic Booysen, Indirect Sales and Partner Manager at EMC Southern Africa. “In a time when customer satisfaction is vital, the skills and experience Shoden is able to deliver on the solution is key.
