Primergy BladeFrame BF200, BF400 S2
Back to product information
With PRIMERGY BladeFrame powered by Egenera, Fujitsu Siemens Computers clears the way for highly responsive enterprise IT. The solution features a service-oriented infrastructure, the innovative Processing Area Network (PAN), which radically eliminates the complexity of traditional infrastructures. Thanks to the simplification, separation and sharing of resources, IT departments have experienced enormous gains in agility and efficiency. Applications can be deployed within a matter of minutes, instead of weeks, and investment costs and the total cost of ownership can be demonstrably reduced by 50 percent.
The Processing Area Network (PAN) was created to remove the physical connection that processors and memory have with each server configuration and application in legacy architectures. The PAN abstracts server and network resources in the same way that the SAN virtualized storage resources. The processing nodes contain no disk drives, Network Interface Cards (NIC) or Host Bus Adapters (HBA): nothing that would give the server a specific identity or state. Instead, all points of state and identity have been moved to the fabric switch, enabling virtualization of both servers and connecting data centre infrastructure.
Servers within the PAN architecture are built differently than in legacy architectures, since the PAN replaces traditional hardware interfaces with software interfaces. Servers are built by combining stateless and anonymous processing resources with definitions that map pServers to physical CPU/memory and the external network through the administration of virtual network switches, storage ports and management networks.
